You've scoured the shops for hours. You've found the perfect bracelet. and now it's been delivered...but oh no, what's this? It's just a little bit too small! Well, we are here to help. In this article, we answer whether bracelets can be resized and if so how. It all depends on the type of bracelet as well as the material it is made from.

How Different Bracelets Can Be Resized

Not all bracelets can be resized so if it's not one that can be, you may want to look at a refund from the retailer. There are many different types of bracelets, you can find out more about them in our guide; Different types of women's bracelets.

Chain or Clasp Bracelet

Chain or Clasp bracelets are by far the easiest bracelet to resize. A chain bracelet is the most common type of bracelet. It uses a fastening to attach the two ends of the bracelet together. A trigger clasp or lobster clasp is the most common form of fastening. It is this attachment that allows the majority of these bracelets to be easily resized. Especially if too small. The clasp allows you to add an additional extender chain between the two adjoining ends. The majority of chain bracelets at PRYA are sold with a free extender to allow for this.

If your bracelet is too large, the process is a little more difficult. Unless you have the tools and the know-how, it's best to ask a jeweller to resize a bracelet that is too big. It usually requires removing links from the chain to ensure a snug fit. And, you'll want to hire a professional so you don't accidentally damage your bracelet.

Personalised Bracelets should be thoroughly checked for sizing as they cannot be returned

Cuff Bracelet

Cuff bracelets by their very nature are resizable. A cuff bracelet is slipped over the wrist rather than the hand. The gap you place your wrist through should have enough give to allow you to comfortably put the bracelet on. Cuff bracelets are usually made from a flexible material such as a soft metal. They can be slightly stretched and bent to either loosen or tighten a bracelet. The material used will determine how far they can be formed. If you push too far in or stretch too wide you could potentially snap or deform the bracelet. If the cuff bracelet resists the pressure, it has probably reached its limit. At this point, the bracelet will not be able to be resized further.

Bangle Bracelet

A bangle style bracelet is quite different from a chain/cuff bracelet. A bangle bracelet cannot be resized easily. The diameter of the bangle is usually set and cannot be altered. The only option for resizing bangles would be to take it to a professional jeweller or metalsmith. If the bangle is made from any other material that is not metal it's unlikely you will be able to resize it at all.

Chain bracelets are easier to resize with an extender for the clasp
