How Can I Measure My Ring Size?
Although it’s best to get your fingers properly sized by a professional jeweller using a ring sizer, you can measure your ring size at home. This is especially helpful if you have found the perfect ring online and you are just dying to get it but you don’t know your ring size already. In this article, we take you through a step by step on how to measure your ring size at home.
How To Measure My Ring Size At Home?
To measure your ring size you’ll need a piece of string or a thin piece of paper and a ruler. Follow the directions below to get an approximate ring size for your finger.
- Wrap the string around the base of the finger you want the ring to sit on.
- Use a pen to mark the point on the string/paper where it overlaps, forming a closed circle.
- Unwind the paper or string from your finger, lay it out as straight as possible on a flat surface.
- With a ruler, measure the length from the starting end of the string/paper to the pen mark you made previously.
- Use the size chart below to determine your ring size.
Here are some extra things to keep in mind when measuring your ring fingers to get the most accurate reading.
- Ensure the strip of paper you use is no wider than 1.4 cm (1/2 inch).
- After sliding the ring sizer on, make sure it slides off fairly easily over the knuckle.
- Don't measure cold fingers as this is when fingers are at their smallest. For the most accurate reading, measure the finger at the end of the day as your fingers are normally at their largest. Just make sure your fingers are warm.
For a completely accurate measurement, go to a jeweller and have your finger sized precisely.

Sized Ring Or An Adjustable Ring?
Once you know your ring size you can easily shop for beautiful rings. All retailers should put the UK ring size on their products so you know you will get exactly what you paid for. However, there is always the option to go for an adjustable ring. These looser fitting rings, also called cuff rings, can be slightly adjusted to fit your finger perfectly. They come in a variety of styles and can be worn above or below the knuckles. They are an excellent option if you are buying a gift for a friend but don’t know what ring size they are but you know they will absolutely love this ring.
